  14. <p>   [Text] Food and Agriculture Organization [FAO] aid has been
  15. held up near Mitsiwa Port for a week, and the EPLF [Eritrean
  16. People's Liberation Front] has not allowed UN officials ashore.
  17. FAO says it has been forced to return its delegation to its
  18. headquarters so the vessel carrying officials and relief aid,
  19. which is desperately needed to save four million lives in
  20. northern Ethiopia, has also left Mitsiwa. The FAO sent the
  21. vessel following the Ethiopian authorities' approval to use
  22. Mitsiwa Port. It is puzzling why the EPLF will not allow the
  23. FAO officials with food aid to use the port. This move is aimed
  24. at compelling the government to accept their terms for settling
  25. the conflict. A solution to the famine crisis must not be
  26. delayed because four million lives are at stake. According to
  27. the UN, 900,000 tonnes of food will be needed.
